A couple months ago when cruising into my old work joint to get the strands saturated I was exposed to their latest product installment.
No. 4 Hair Care - A fairly new to the game styling and treatment line.
The packaging is super sexy and streamlined though they do fall short a smidgen by making the products a tad difficult to decipher if you’re not familiar with the bottles.
I will say as far as delivery and scent goes - it’s top notch.
I’m very particular about smell, and especially about how my hair is going to smell so that plays a large role in what I will and will not use on my tresses. Also, I have a few staple products which I swear by, so new additions need to work seamlessly. All of the Number Four products do.
First off, the scents are quite unisex, earthy and clean. Nothing is too robust, which is key. The Prep & Protect kind of reminds me of cheap chocolate (which I’m not too keen on) but that can be overlooked due to the fact that it clobbers both Prep and Tonic by Bumble & Bumble.
The quantity of liquid/foamy/gooey goods that each bottle holds is what is so fantastic. I’m a volume whore. If Brigitte Bardot and Stevie Nicks had a lesbian love child - that would be my dream coiffure. I’ve used a SLEW of volumizing sprays/gels/foams/creams and so far Number Four’s Styling Foam reigns supreme. The bonus that it comes in a pump versus an aerosol can is superb as there is more product and less air.
Their Blow Dry lotion is great for additional heat protection and slight control. However, I tend to lean towards Kerastase’ Ciment Thermique as that is the golden goose for a damaged ‘do. But occasionally double up on both when the locks need a little extra lurve.
The Non Aerosol Hair Spray is where it’s at. This shit holds without tack, weight, and grody fumes. I’ve stated on numerous occasions that if I die from anything it will probably be hairspray inhalation. But with this bad-boy I’m shellacing in safety.
Despite all of the above.
The real clencher.
This line is 100% Vegan, Sulfate, Gluten, Bad Taste and Paraben FREE.
"We exclude all ingredients potentially toxic to humans, rare vintage couture and our dear environment."
Not that that is essential considering I eat meat, wear fur, adore leather and have slapped many a’ carcinogenic products on my face in my day.
It’s still a lovely bonus.
These green lines… If they keep pumping out quality goods I might just become a faithful granola.
